sounds like a suspension bush get a friend to push n pull the strut back and forwards ( not up n down) and look under the bonnet where the suspension strut locates on the inner wing if it moves chances are its the top bush worn and needs replacing( u may need coil spring compressors but its an easy job) if it doesnt moves check the movement of the bottom bush in the same way

If the rubber insulation has worn out then the engine will shift slightly against the mount and make a clunking noise. This happened on my 96 Nissan Quest minivan.
