If you can start the engine when cold, but it sputters and stalls when it's warm, then you most likely have a bad ICM. When you crank the engine, if you have tachometer movement, then the module is good, if there's no tach movement while cranking then the module is bad. The tachometer gets the signal from the module, so if the tach works, then the module is good.

I've heard u can resolder the ground inside the control box but your best bet is to just replace it.
If the cruise control on your 1987 300ZX does not work, you might have an issue with the cruise control fuse or wiring. You could also have a problem with the switch that turns the cruise control on and off.
Unfortunately you will have to remove the engine to get at it.
Replace it with a new one.
