Yes there is a chance of valve damage when a timing belt fails. Being that the valves and pistons operate in the same cylinder at different times to preform their tasks. The timing belt keeps the valves and pistons in time so they do what they should when they are suppose to, when the belt fails, the pistons are still moving and the valves stop. The piston can then collide with the valve causing damage to the valve and also move the valve causing other valves to move, causing even more damage to other valves in the system as the other pistons continue to move. Need more help contact me through my board and I will try to help.
Well I really have no idea what a ldv is, but if your timing belt breaks and your engine is an interference engine there will be damage. If it is not an interference engine there will be no damage.
yes
an engine where, in the event that the timing is off or if the timing belt breaks, the pistons can collide with the valves and actually do damage.
yes this is an interference engine damage to valves will occur if the timing belt breaks and the engine is turned
Yes, when the belt breaks the engine will not run. In addition you will have internal engine damage if the engine was an interference engine.
If the timing belt on a 1.6 Astra breaks, it can damage the engine. It is more likely to damage the engine if it is a timing chain, though. A timing chain is made of metal and a timing belt is made of a heavy duty rubber.
Yes, it is an interference engine.
Yes!
It has a timing belt. Replace at 60,000 miles. Warning: This is an interference engine. If the belt breaks serious engine damage will occur.
If the timing belt breaks on any engine the damage to the engine is usually very bad.
Oh yes!
On older 300ZX's equipped with a timing belt it will cause internal engine damage if the belt breaks as they are interference engines.
