Franklin Delano Roosevelt was the longest serving President. as the 22nd Amendment through which the Pres of the US could serve for 2 consecutive or twice in different years. Popularly called FDR he became Pres in 1932 as the 32nd Pres in 1933 & contd till his 4th term & died of natural causes, when Harry Truman took over.
FDR (Jan 18th 1882 to April 12th 1945. He was the Pres during Jap attack on Pearl Harbor, forcing the US to join the IInd World War. As many feels that he was related to Pres Theodore Roosevelt, they were only connected as the 5th Cousins. He presided over the US at a time when the great depression, Oakie's dust bowl disaster, & a main role in the WWII siding with the Allied forces.

Technically John F. Kennedy was elected the youngest but the youngest president in office was Roosevelt. (Roosevelt was elected Vice President in 1900 and became President when President William McKinley was assassinated.)
