Chicken was invented when cellular molecules evolved over centuries into an animal which was the ancestor of the modern chicken. That ancestor had eggs and over time those eggs hatched into what we know as chickens.

On the lighter side

Fried chicken was discovered in 1802 by a man called "the Colonel". He made this discovery because a chicken had escaped from the hen house and had made a run for its life. That day, though, was the day "The Colonel" always fried some potatoes to eat. "The Colonel" caught the chicken, and as he was taking it to the chopping board, he tripped and accidentally flung the chicken into the fryer, thereby inventing chicken fries and fried chicken at the same time.

Chickens, which would have looked quite different then from those we know today, were first eaten by humans when humans learned to catch them.

Eggs would also have been collected from wild nests; much later chickens were kept in enclosures and farmed for their meat and eggs by those leading less nomadic lives.

There is no way to pinpoint the periods when any of this happened; hunting and farming go back well before recorded history.
