The earliest mail armour was made in Slovakia during the 3rd century BC. The Gauls seem to have been particularly skilled at making mail shirts and from them its use was quickly adopted by Roman Republican troops. It continued in use in parts of the world into the 18th and 19th centuries.
Mail is most effective in protecting against cutting strokes but much less useful against penetration by narrow points such as bodkin arrowheads; it will not absorb the force of a blunt force blow, so some form of padding is essential beneath it.

Medieval armor was not invented by an individual or small group of people we can name, it was developed by large number of people over a very long time. Its origins were in Roman armor of antiquity, and it developed as conditions changed.
The French were the first to invent a tank with armor. It was Jean Baptiste Estienne idea to add armor and artillery to a Holt tractor.
Armor is a 5-letter word starting with A that means "mail," as in chain mail armor worn by medieval knights.
Mail armor is worn by warriors and paladins from when they first start until level 40 when they get access to plate armor. Shaman and hunters wear leather until 40 when they get access to mail armor. Although Death Knights start at 55 and therefore start in plate armor, they can wear mail armor, although that probably isn't a good idea as DK's are melee and need the armor to survive. No other class is allowed to wear mail armor.
Chainmail was the first effective use of armor.

The British
Some common types of armor used in medieval times are leather armor that has been treated by boiling or waxing, chain mail armor, plate armor and scale armor.
In terms of protective quality in terms of blunt force and weight, the mail is still widely used, and it is apparent that there are numerous reasons for this. It is adaptable, allowing it to cover areas where a plate would be difficult to protect. The mail is often heavier than an armor plate in terms of material. Because mail and plate armor come in a variety of thicknesses, there's some leeway here. Plate mail armor is frequently backed with chain mail, with the metal plates welded to the chainmail backing.
