Construction of the Berlin Wall started on 13 August 1961. It separated East and West Berlin and plugged the last 'gap' in the Iron Curtain which divided Europe into two blocs. It remained in place till 9 November 1989.

∙ 11y agoThe wall was started on August 13, 1961. Most of the Wall was built over a period of many years. Because the DDR government kept improving it, as you will to any obstacle, it was never really finished.
