Who built the m16?

The M16, a 5.56x45mm assault rifle, is based on the AR-15 rifle originally designed by Eugene Stoner, and produced by ArmaLite. Upon entering service with the United States armed forces, the M16 name was adopted, and the contract to build these rifles was given to Colt's Manufacturing Company. Since then Fabrique Nationale d'Herstal (FNH), H&R Firearms, the General Motors Hydramatic Division, and Sabre Defence have also built the M16 rifle for the U.S. military.

Why did Eugene Stoner create the M16?

Eugene Stoner invented the M16 because the military was looking for a reliable rifle. Eugene heard that and went to work on the rifle. The military loved it so they adopted the gun and mass produced it for the soldiers on the front line.
