When did Islam start as a faith?

Islam means Submission to God. In this meaning it is the objective of God revelations to all prophets including Noah, Abraham, Isac, Jacob, Moses, Jesus until Mohamed.

Judaism is the religion according to God revelation to Prophet Moses. Christianity is the religion according to God revelation to Prophet Jesus. The very name Islam is the religion according to God revelation to Prophet Mohamed.

Islam , as the religion revelation to Prophet Mohamed, started in year 610 by the revelation of the first verse of Quran (the Islam religion Holy book) in Mecca (in present country Saudi Arabia).

The origins of Islam are attributed to Muhammad's personal quest to share God's words to others in 7th Century AD. By attributing his words to the will of God, Muhammad was able to be trustful and nice to his followers. He made sure Muslims didn't hurt 'the people of the book' or Jews and christens.

The last Prophet of Islam, Hazrat Muhammad (SAW) didn't start Islam of his own accord. Islam was neither FOUNDED nor DEVELOPED by some person. Islam is the religion given to mankind by the Creator, Almighty God. All the holy Prophets (May peace be upon them all) preached Islam. The last Prophet Hazrat Muhammad Mustafa (SAW) started preaching Islam at the age of 40, in 570 AD in Makka, Arabia.
