In 80 BC, Lucius Cornelius Sulla had a new senate house built because he doubled the seats of the senate. It was called the Curia Cornelia. In 44 BC Julius Caesar started building a new senate house (the Curia Julia) because he wanted it moved to make room for the construction of the Forum of Caesar. During the construction, the meetings of the senate were transferred to the Theatre of Pompey, which was where Caesar was murdered. The building of the Curia Julia was completed by Augustus in 29 BC.
