I'm not sure who added the Ziplock, but one of the first people to develop and market the baggie was "Baggie King" Howard Samuels who started Kordite Corp. ith his brother in Macedon NY in the 50's. After he sold Kordite to Mobile (becoming it's vice president) and while living in my home town of Canandaigua NY, he got into politics. He was involved in a couple of close NY Gubanatorial races, served as Under Sec of Commerce under LBJ, was director of the Small Business Administration, and was President of the North American Soccer League! Aafter living apart for several years he divorced is wife in 1973 and married Antoinette Chautemps - an economist and daughter of French Premier Camille Chautemps. He was a true bipartisan intercontinental Maverick who appreciated the best in all people; and probably lost to Carey in 1974 beceause he had previously supported the election of liberal Republican Gov. Geroge Lindsay, alienating some in his own Democratic 'base'. I believe the Wikipedia entry below noting his sad death and well-deserved kind words from his note-worthy eulogists say it all. My question would be " why is this the only entry one finds when googling his name. His life is the materials of an important biography. well-deserved eulogies from high places; and can't figure why his important contributions warrant only this one article; while my googled name, elicits several hundred because as a mid-level bureaucrat my name appeared on some legal documents. On October 26, 1984, Samuels died of a heart attack at his home in New York City. His funeral was attended by many leading political figures. He received eulogies from Governor Mario M. Cuomo of New York, Senator Gary Hart of Colorado, Senator Edward M. Kennedy of Massachusetts, and Senator Christopher J. Dodd of Connecticut. Former New York governor Malcolm Wilson, once an opponent, remembered him as "a highly principled gentleman with a well-developed civic and social conscience." Cuomo said that Samuels was "a gentle, compassionate man ...(who) had the instincts, talents, and compassion to have been a great governor." "He was a better man and a visionary than a politician," stated journalist Ken Auletta, formerly the director of Samuels's staff http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Howard_Samuels

Zip-lock bags, like everything else, was invented by a person who had trouble with something: in this case it was food wrapped in wax paper or a sandwich bag going bad.

He or she sought a new and better way to pack lunches, etc., and had the brains, insight and resources to seek - if necessary - the right people to finance his ideas.

Many, many people are millionaires today, not for what they invented, but for what they invested-in at ground floor prices.
