Answer: the first banana to have been sold in the UK appears to have been in 1633 brought by Thomas Johnson [1].
Bananas originate from south East Asia [2], and spread to Africa and the Middle East where they were spread to southern Europe by arabian traders, so although many of the bananas we eat today are grown in the Carribean and Americas it is possible bananas could have arrived in Britain before the discovery of the New World. The article linked mentions a banana skin dating from 1500 being found in London, but gives no reference.
Disclaimer: I have entirely based this off half an hour of research on the internet

Bananas were not a regular household item or even available in grocery stores until they were made popular by New Orleans chefs in the 1930's. They were first imported in large volumes into New Orleans, then began to be a popular item along ports up the Mississippi river and spread east and west from there. Legend has it that a large shipment of bananas was somehow included as part of a fruit and coffee shipment causing the importers to reach out to local chefs as to what could be done with this fruit. The result of their creativity was several popular banana desserts and other dishes created on the fly to make use of the fruit.

Some varieties of bananas are native to certain areas of the world, for example, plantains are native to India. The only states in the US to grow bananas are Hawaii and Florida, however the crops tend to be small, leaving the US dependent on imported bananas. And they come from plants and minions.
