AnswerThe Babylonian Exile began in 586BC, when the Judahite city of Jerusalem was destroyed and its population taken captive. A small community returned to Judah at the end of the century. They did not 'return' to Israel, as Israel no longer existed, having ceased to exist over two hundred years earlier.

Why is judaism the religion of Israel?

Judaism is popular in Israel because most Israelis are Jewish. The Jews were given the land of Israel by G-d as an inheritance and therefor it only prospers when Jews live there. Whenever Jews are chased out or exiled the land return to be desert-like; compare the land of Israel now to what it was like 100 years ago under foreign rule.

What was the what was the outcome of the third stage in God's plan for the return of the exiled people of Judah?

The stages is what is confusing here. There was the first time the Israelites entered Israel under Joshua. Hundreds of years later, they were temporarily exiled to Assyria and Babylonia, and permitted ot return after the time of Cyrus. The poorest Jews still remained in "Israel" while the majority were exiled. After the Bar Cochba rebellion of 132-135AD, they started to drift away from Israel settling around the world as they were barred from even seeing Jerusalem. The third time they have returned is after the second world war, if that is what you are referring to. These are not commonly referred to as stages. Nevertheless, for Christians the Jews were expected to return back at some time. Jesus said the Jews in Jerusalem wouldl not see Him again until they acknowledge Him as Lord, "as He who comes in the Name of the Lord" (Matthew 23v39). Therefore for the prophecy to be fulfilled they had to return. "All Israel will be saved" (Romans 11v26). So the Jews will remain in Jerusalem until Christ's return, before He does that many will become Christians or Messainic Jews. Of-course the present Jewish Orthodoxy do not accept this but already many have become Christian in recent years. Figures of membership of Jews for Jesus for example have steadily risen. I hope this does answer your question.

It depends on the exile in question. Most Jews that wanted to returned to Land of Israel after the exile in Babylonia on account of Cyrus the Great. When did the country of Israel get exiled?

The Jews view the region of modern Israel and Palestine as their ancient homeland. They were exiled from it several times in history. However, the country of Israel was not and cannot be exiled because it is a place. When king Nebuchadnezzar II of Babylon destroyed Solomon's Temple (The First Temple) in 586 BCE, the Jews were exiled to Babylon but were allowed to return by Cyrus the Great in 537 BCE. In the aftermath of the Bar Kokhba revolt in 132--136 AD, the Romans destroyed the Second Temple and again many Jews were exiled or left the country on their own. This later exile is the one that spread Jews around the known world and from which they are returning when they return to the modern state of Israel today.

What year did Israel fall to invaders?

In the year 70 C.E. (Common Era), the Romans destroyed Jerusalem and its Holy Temple and exiled the Jews. However, although Jews were no longer permitted in Jerusalem, Jews lived throughout the country. In fact, there was never a period where there were NO Jews living somewhere in Israel. During the Middle Ages, more Jews began to return to Israel, growing in the Nineteenth Century. By the end of the Nineteenth Century, Jews outnumbered Arab in Jerusalem itself.

Why did Jews wait 2000 years to return to Israel?

It's a myth that there were no Jews living in Israel for 2000 years. Jews have been living in Israel without interruption for over 3000 years. The modern return to Israel by Jews living outside of the land started in the 1800's when they began to have the freedom to do so.

Where did Jews settle in the Middle East?

After they were exiled from Israel (formerly called Canaan), the Jews were exiled by the Babylonians and later (after returning), were heavily persecuted by the Romans. Why did they feel the need to write the gemara?

For the same reason that they wrote the mishna. People were forgetting the oral tradition so it had to be written down, now with more detail than the mishna. Also some Jews were living in Babylonia and some in Israel, the Jews in Babylonia would be teaching differently than the Jews in Israel. Therefore, they wrote the Gemara so that all Jews would have the same "guidelines"
