When will the Large Hadron Collider begin operation?

The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) completed a test run by circulating protons late in 2008. But it down now because of a fault with a pair of the superconducting magnets that resulted in some damage. It is expected (hoped) that the LHC will be back online later (September) in 2009. Stay tuned. A link to particulars on the LHC can be found below. It is updated fairly regularly, too.

When did medical experiments begin in the holocaust?

Are there any science words that begin with e?

Where is the Large Hadron Collider located?

The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is a underground ring 27 kilometers in circumference. It is used to smash protons together at speeds close to the speed of light (approx. 2.997*108). These protons are sent in "packets" which then collide with other packets. There are ultra sensitive particle detectors at impact points that record the collision. The purpose of the LHC is to determine if the Higgs Boson particle exists.

How does a scientific from a hypothesis?

once a hypothesis has been supported in repeated experiments, scientists can begin to develop a theory.

What is inductivism?

According to inductivism, scientific research proceeds from observations to theories.Scientists begin with experiments, finding out what happens in specific cases. They then use the results of these experiments to develop general theories about what happens in all cases.

What are some school items that start with the letter E?

Encyclopedia, educators, erasers, essay, exam and experiments are school items. They begin with E.

What is used to accelerate protons?

It is the particle accelerator that we use to accelerate protons in the physics lab. (Accelerators can accelerate other things, too.) There are a number of different accelerators, and they include the cyclotron, the synchrotron, the tevatron, and the new LHC (Large Hadron Collider) to name a few. Use the link below to begin investigating these and other similar machines.

How did john dalton ivent atomic theory?

He simply proposed that the 'indivisible' parts of masses, known as atoms, were tiny spheres. He did no experiments to test this, but future physicists would begin to show interest in this theory and begin to evolve it further. Now, our current theory is that atoms are composed of a nucleus(where there are protons and neutrons), and energy shells(where electrons orbit the nucleus at incredibly high speeds).

How did teams begin in business?

Teams, which began as social-technical-business experiments as part of the total quality management concept, have become an accepted norm in a majority of organizations.

Could the Large Hadron Collider destroy the Earth?

No, it can't. The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is a large (high energy) particle accelerator, and it is the most powerful one ever built on this rock. There is some talk about the LHC creating tiny black holes. The energy of the colliding particles will be really over the top, but a black hole is created when gravity overcomes all other forces to trap and compress a significant quantity of mass into a singularity. The energy of "creation" that appears when the LHC slams stuff together will be too high to allow the gravity associated with the events to actually create a black hole. And this takes into account the increase in mass associated with relativistic velocities. This is similar to the "scare" associated with the test of the first hydrogen bomb (a nuclear fusion weapon). Someone ideated that the intense heat that would cause the fusion events to begin would result in the creation of so much energy that the atmosphere would begin the undergo fusion. This would cause the chain to go out of control and destroy the earth. This did not happen - because it could not. (The "geometry" of the blast is "wrong" for this to occur.) And the LHC creating those little black holes? Keep dreamin' about it. Some numbers on paper suggest things that reality won't support.
