The Development company had to work on the new PS Vita LittleBigPlanet game and that will not even be released until September 25, 2012. There is also LittleBigPlanet Karting for November 6, 2012 release. Neither of these games can be considered a LBP 3 even if some may call the LBP Karting by that name.
Little Big Planet is like every other game just released. Even if they plan a next edition they will not announce it for quite a while and many planned releases are eventually cancelled. In the case of Little Big Planet they are still making money selling add ons to the first two games and the estimate of a Long Long Time is accurate for the release of LBP3.
LBP 3 will probably be out in a year and a half. That was the gap between LBP 1 and 2 so it's probably a decent guess.
The gap was over 2 years between the LBP October 2008 release and the January 2011 LBP 2 release. They make their money from game sales and since part 2 sold a ton of copies there will be a third one within a 18 to 24 months.
In the case of LBP and LBP 2 Sony makes money from the many varied and assorted add ons available at the PlayStation Store. The format of the game allows for new and interesting levels to be continuously added without the need for new editions. Features can also be added with larger more expensive add ons.
Probably in 5 years or so.

If LittleBigPlanet 2 is a huge success they will begin more work on the development of a third in the series, but right now they are still upset that they missed the ability to have the Christmas sales of LittleBigPlanet 2.
