When you connect an external hard drive to your computer will info already on the hard drive be erased?

Not unless you reformat the drive, although if the drive is a different format like a mac and you have a PC you might have to reformat the drive just to use it

Do you lose everything in your apps when you reformat your mac?

Yes, when you "reformat" it erases the hard drive completely. It will be an empty drive, you will have to reinstall the OS from your disk/Apple internet or reinstall from a back-up after you do it.

Can you put a mac OS x on a PC?

yes but for a mac you don't have to format hard drives... so if you were to put a mac hard drive into a PC you would have to reformat it, I'm not completely sure how to do that

Do you have to use an apple brand backkup hard drive on a mac computer?

No. You just have to make sure to reformat whatever drive you get into the Apple format. Only takes a few seconds.

Can you use a Windows Pocket Hard Drive on a Mac Book?

It will depend on what formatting system was used for the hard drive. If it uses FAT-32 format then it will work with a Mac but with the limitations associated with FAT32 formatting (file size/naming etc.). If you own the drive and are only using it with the Mac you can reformat it (using Disk Utility found in the Utilities folder within the Applications folder) as a Mac OS Extended (Journaled) drive.

How do you make mac-book hard disk NTFS format compatible?

The NTFS format is owned and controlled by Microsoft and so is not available as a standard format with the Mac's Disk Utility. There are options such as Paragon's NTFS for Mac OS X but normally this would be used on a secondary external drive rather than reformat the MacBook's hard disc.

What should you do if my WD passport essential doesn't show up on my mac?

Your hard drive is formatted in NTFS most likely, which is a Windows standard. Either reformat it to something both Macs and Windows can read (FAT32 generally) or format it for Macs. Or buy a different drive specifically for the Mac and leave NTFS on that one.

How do you turn your mac hard drive into a windows hard drive?

I'm not quite sure what you mean, so I'll give you both answers: "How do you use a hard drive for Mac and Windows on the same machine?" On a mac, insert a Windows install CD or DVD, and the computer will ask you if you want to set up windows to run alongside mac. In the process you will partition the hard drive, so you will kind of have a windows hard drive, and a mac hard drive, but on the same disk. "How do you remove a Mac hard drive and put it in a Windows machine?" I am not a technical expert, so you might want to look up "How to remove and install a hard drive". All I know is it probably won't fit, so you might need to buy a hard drive enclosure and run the drive from a USB port. Hope one of these helps! If not, please revise your question
