The overdrive light will be off when the overdrive switch is pushed in. If the light flashes then that's a trouble shooting code.
A light switch and a computer are similar because they both work on the on/off concept.

there isn't a switch that will turn off the engine light, but there is a connector that you plug in a scan tool to find out why the light is on, and with the tool you can reset the computer which will turn the light off, or you can try this, disconnect the neg. side battery cable for about 5 mins. and then reconnect tne cable which should turn the light off, but the code that is in the computer will still be there and the light may or may not come back on.
To operate a light switch, you simply flip the switch up to turn the light on and flip it down to turn the light off.
