water in the oil ? Unlikely . Stuck closed the engine will overheat in short time. Stuck open , the engine will probably never reach operating temperature , and cold air will come out of the heater
You're Thermostat may possibly be stuck in the closed position, therefore not allowing coolant (water/antifreeze) to pass through to the engine. Basically check your thermostat is working.
Yes. If stuck closed the car will overheat. If stuck open the car will never warm up properly and the oil will slowly turn to sludge.
Because that is its job! A thermostat is a device that measures the temperature of a given space or volume, and turns heating / cooling devices on and off accordingly. The thermostat in your house is designed to turn the heating off when the house is warm and turn it on when the house is cold. The thermostat in your car turns the radiator fan on when the oil / water temperature increases to a level that could be damaging to the engine (if you are stuck in traffic for example)
All sorts of thing can.. Low oil, low coolant, blocked radiator, stuck thermostat, running too lean on fuel... If it just suddenly started to do it and the levels are ok then check the thermostat.
A stuck open thermostat will cause a car to run cooler than needed. It will cause oil to sludge, a loss of gas mileage due to running rich and numerous other problems.
Try changing the thermostat.
assuming you have water in the radiator and it is not frozen and the electric fans are coming on - then you have a stuck thermostat. Replace it. Drain your coolant and flush the system, replace the thermostat and fill with 50/50 coolant and water. Also check the drained coolant for signs of contaminates like gas or oil, you may need a head gasket.
its under the engine, oil filter side ,part of the water pump housing.
Could be the thermostat stuck closed - not letting coolant get round the whole system and cool efficiently. Could be head gasket - check for oil in the coolant is the usual giveaway. Could be water pump failed, meaning water not pumping round the engine. Hope that helps
nope, bad head gasket..
Does the radiator cap hold the correct pressure? Has the coolant been in the motor for a very long time? Is there alot of scale buildup on the inside of the radiator? Is the water and antifreeze mixture right? Is the cars oil pressure good? Is the thermostat stuck closed? Any of these will do it.
1. full coolant level? no? fill. 2. fans come on around 190-200 degrees? no? replace sensor switch. 3. check for worn/ slipping water pump belt. replace 4. radiator holds pressure? no? have leak/pin hole in radiator fixed. 5. heater puts out hot air? no? thermostat possibly stuck, replace. 6. high mileage? possible water pump failure, disconnect top radiator hose at radiator, start car, water starts pumping out of top hose? no? replace water pump. (Also good test for stuck thermostat, if stuck, valve to radiator is shut off = no flow to radiator) 7. If not any of above, check for oil in water or water in oil (in oil it will make oil look kinda milky brown)this is possibe blown head gasket from overheating, take to mechanic for diagonstic of exhaust gasses in coolant. entire powertrain has to be dropped from under car to get to timing cover in order to remove head to replace gasket. VERY EXPENSIVE. consider selling car.
