In the hood behind the spare tire.
Black goes to earth and red to starter relay
if you are trying to change it while it is running it always needs an earth for the ecu otherwise there should not be any reason connected with the battery to cause idle problem
Check earth connection. Sometimes if wires aren't connected right, running the car will discharge the battery instead of charging it... ----------------------------------------- Check for a current draw by disconnecting the negative cable at the battery and hook a test light between the cable and the battery. Remove fuses until the light goes out. While doing so remember to depress the door jam switch as it will show a current draw.
Ground / earth protection will not impact cable sizing.

Check that the - cable is not corroded at the end that attaches to the vehicles body, sometimes when a battery is changed they get disturbed and break if corroded, also check all other earth cables from body to engine etc. Some vehicles have a main fuse in the fusebox, sometimes the fitting of a new battery if there is an unnoticed short can blow this fuse,I have had them blow purely because they were old and the jolt of a new battery at full volts has popped them!, Make sure you have fitted ALL the wires to the battery and to the correct terminals, sometimes a wire can drop down into the engine bay and be missed when refitting the battey, there are usually 2 red wire a heavy one and a thinner one and one heavt earth - cable (sometimes there maybe a lighter cable aswell) Make sure all connectors are clean and free from corrosion and that they are firmly fixed to the cable and not damaged, replace any damaged ones or clean up corroded ones with wet and dry paper and refit.
I've got the same problem currently. Had the starter tested, ok. New battery. alternator ok. ??????? I'll keep trying Check that the earth lead on the battery is clean and secured where it is bolted to the chassis.
if i remember correctly you have a heavy duty cable that goes to the battery and a light cable typically red that goes to ignition posative via the charge indicator light and some alternator have a earth wire as they are insulated this varies from make to make of alternator and vehicle maufacturer but the principle is the same
Alot of people speculate this question, but in reality, yes, most of the time satellite is cheaper than cable. Obviously it depends on your service probably and where you are located on earth.
The plates in earth are located in the litmosphere.
Most likely reason (90% of the time) is due to a low charge on the battery, most garages will be able to check the battery charge (normally or free), otherwise your earth cable may not have a great connection, or you have a worn starter motor.
