What is the Difference between rising stem gate valve and non rising stem gate valve?

Rising stem gate Valve- Stem threads are out side of valve body and in no contact with fluid medium. Stem rises while opening the valve (by hand wheel). Since the stem threads are located outside obviously it needs some more vertical clearance space while opening the valve.Non Rising Stem gate Valve - Stem threads are inside the the valve body and it is in contact with fluid medium. Hence, lot of chances for fouling the threads and these types of valves only can be used in clean liquids and gases. Less vertical clearance space required while opening the valve.

What is the use and features of the Expanding gate valves?

Expanding gate valves are used in various industrial areas like isolation valves in power plants, ESD valves in production, block valves in process systems, high temperature valves in refineries, and pipeline valves in critical areas. These expanding gate valves manufactured by various manufacturers are available in all the sizes, pressure ranges, and trims used in piping systems requiring the positive shut off of liquid or gas. The expanding gate valves are full bore through conduit valves with rising stem and parallel expanding gate and segment for tight mechanical seal and positive shutoff, both upstream and downstream, and under both low and high differential pressure. An expanding gate valves should have the following features: Parallel expanding gate design creates positive mechanical seal across both seats, both upstream and downstream, with or without line pressure. Non-rising stem permits valve installation in pressure drop.

What are decumbent stem?

a decumbent stem is a plant that grows on the grownd but with a erect or rising tip

What is the difference between plug valves and globe valves with plug?

A Plug Valve is a Globe Valve. Very generally speaking there are two major catagories of Industrial Process Control Valves, Sliding Stem and Rotary. Globe Bodies valves fall into the category of Sliding Stem Valves. Butterfly and Ball valves fall into the category of Rotary valves. However there are what is referred as Rotary Plug Valves, whereby a partial sphere has a shaft eccentrically mounted, that rotates into and out of a metal or composition seat acting as a plug. Most plug valves are sliding stem.

How to Install a Gate Air Valve?

Unlike traditional check valves, gate valves have very low flow resistance, thanks to the straight-through design of the wetted area. Stainless steel is also corrosion-resistant, and will not leach into the medium it passes through. It can be used in areas where corrosive fluids are present, and it can be used in drinking water. Despite its low resistance to fluids, the valve is relatively easy to maintain. Before installation, clean the sealing surface and cavity of the gate valve, and tighten the packing. The valve seat is attached to the body of the valve by a screw and can be either rising or falling. When fully opened, a gate valve exposes the stem of the gate. A sealing gland in the body compresses the packing and creates a tight seal. A rising stem gate valve is suitable for above-ground installation. The valve is not recommended for use with corrosive liquids. It is advisable to install a gate valve with a high-flow capacity. The stem of a gate valve is attached to the body of the valve. The rising stem is connected directly to the gate. This is a visual indication of the valve's position. The nonrising stem is threaded into the body and has a pointer at the top. It is best suited for applications that have little vertical space and do not want to scrape. If a rising stem is necessary, it should be installed with the valve's body. A gate valve has two parts. The body is the largest. The valve's spindle is attached to the body. The body contains two springs which act as hinges. The spring is an internal component that provides a tight seal. A spherical valve is more efficient than a lever valve. A pressure-sensitive model is a type of ball valve. This design also provides higher pressure than the other type. The bonnet is made from steel. A gate valve has two types of bonnets: a non-rising stem and a rising stem. The rising stem is used in high pressure service. In a non-rising stem, the stem is stationary. The non-rising stem has a single disc. During a closed valve, the disc and the stem move up and apart. The media is then allowed to pass through. The fully open gate valve provides minimal resistance and little pressure drop. A gate valve has two types of seats: the rising and the falling stem. The rising stem is fixed to the gate and rises and falls together with the valve. The rising stem is fixed to the gate, while the sinking one is mounted between two seats. The rising and the falling stem are fixed together. The roses and falling stems are connected to each other by a threaded rod, which is threaded into the valve. The wedged gate is the most common type. It has two inclined seats. When the gate is closed, it will not stick to the seat. A wedge-shaped valve can be used for high-pressure applications. However, it is not recommended for use in corrosive fluids. Its flexibility allows it to withstand high-pressure conditions, such as high-temperature environments. The flexible wedge is a good choice for corrosive fluids. AVK Singapore Pte Limited Address: 40 Gambas Crescent Nordcom 2 757018 Singapore Telephone : +6562141048 Working Hours - 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM

Why back seat test is not applicable for ball valves?

Because ball valves stem can't rise. It turns 90° but it doesn't rise. Back seat test ( appicable for gate and globe valves only) can be carried out by means of the full opening of the valve. Once the valve is in full open position the stem should be in contact with the bonnet ( generally hardfaced on that area) , in a manner that a sealing between bonnet and stem allows the packing to be replaced with the pressure inside the valve. Of course this is possible only because the stem rises. In the ball valves ( standard) the stem only rotate 90° , then the back seat test can't be done.

Is there an Open and close indicator for a gate valve?

Yes buy a RISING Stem type

What is NRS in term of gate Valve?

Non rising stem of a globe valve refered as NRS.

How do you adjust valves on your 11 hp Briggs and stratton lawn mower engine?

If the valves are new you grind the end of the valve stem to the proper height . Otherwise you just clean the valves up real good and put them back in , there is no other adjustment .

When are stem and leaf plots used?

stem and leaf plots are used in math

Why do brass instruments have valves?

The valves are used to change notes.

How do you adjust valves on a Briggs and stratton engin?

The valve clearance is set by grinding the faces if there is too much clearance or grinding the tip of the stem if there is too little. If it is a OHV engine you can easily adjust the valves. Try going to the link below for a video that shows how to adjust the valves.
