Certainly in animal cells, they have a 'sack' called a lysosome which is filled with enzymes that help to break down anything entering the cell via phagocytosis (the process where the cell 'eats' things).

How is black pigment produced in the sim tube?

Black pigment in the SIM tube typically results from the production of hydrogen sulfide by certain bacteria during metabolic processes. The hydrogen sulfide reacts with iron salts in the medium to form insoluble black iron sulfide, which appears as a black precipitate in the tube.

Why are enzymes produced?

Enzymes are produced by cells to catalyze and speed up biochemical reactions within the body. They lower the activation energy needed for a reaction to occur, making processes more efficient. Enzymes play a crucial role in various physiological functions such as digestion, metabolism, and DNA replication.

How does compartmentalization organize a cells function?

It allows for specialized functions in each of the compartments. Also, different concentrations of substances inside vs. outside the compartment can be used. For example, lysosomes are organelles that contain digestive enzymes. The organism doesn't want the enzymes just loose in the cell, because the enzymes might break down something the cell needs. Another example is the mitochondria, which uses a difference of concentration of hydrogen ions to make ATP (the form of energy used in cells).

How long can bacteria live outside the body?
