all around the sides of lower part of the block front an read & between the engine & transmission & some have them in the heads the block plugs(welch pugs) are about 1 1/2 inch across & are also called casting plugs.the smaller one are about 3/4 inch.
Simple description: The crank sensor sends information to the ECM so that it knows when to fire the plugs. It is located behind the harmonic balancer. It requires removing the balancer in order to remove and replace it.
temp sensor on the 99 miata is on the back of the cylinder head in a housing. it's easy to see and get at with the coilpack removed. also wanted to correct an earlier answer on 90-93 miata temp switch, which is in basically the same place. the switch on the top of the thermostat housing front of engine is for the cooling fan.
IF that is the Intake Air Temp sensor - It is probably on the throttle body. the other sensor is the TPS throttle position sensor
drive the very edge of the old plug so it spins 90 degree in the block so you can pull it out with pliers. a seal driver or large socket is used to put the new one in with sealant around the edges.
