∙ 10y agoThe harmonic balancer, or crank pulley, will have a line that matches up with marks either cast into the timing cover, or on a piece of metal bolted to the timing cover. It can be common for the piece of metal with marks to be missing. If that is the case, you have no real way to set timing.
