remove the fan, to make things easier, were the upper radiator hose goes down near the water pump, there is a plastc pice. just below the temperature sending units, to the right. there are the bolts.
The thermostat housing on the 1998 Mazda 626 6 cylinder is located underneath the air filter housing. You need to remove this air filter housing to get to the thermostat housing. There's two (2) bolts the left connecting the thermostat housing to the motor and another two (2) bolts facing the steering wheel connecting it to the engine. This is where the thermostat is housed.
The thermostat is located at the front left side of the engine. follow the radiator hose to the thermostat housing where there are two 12mm bolts holding it on.
I replaced mine about a week ago. Follow the top hose coming from the radiator to a housing unit with 2 bolts. The thermostat is inside the housing.
Got the 2 bolts on the top, remove them and put the new one on
The 1995 Toyota Tacoma thermostat housing torque specification is 40 pounds. The amount of torque on the thermostat housing bolts is not that important. You basically do not want to break the thermostat housing bolts.

== == It's located within the thermostat housing, to the right side of the engine... follow the large rubber tube coming from the radiator and it shall lead you to the housing, which is held in place by two bolts. Warning: if you take the housing off, to replace the thermostat, be gentle with the thermoswitch, and it is also very fiddly to have the thermostat centralised on the housing when you bolt it back on.
In most cases the thermostat housing has four retaining bolts. The exact number of retaining bolts is dependent upon the year, make, and model of the engine.
The upper radiator hose goes to the thermostat housing. There should be two bolts holding the housing on. (possibly three) Remove those bolts and pull the housing up. The thermostat is under there.
Remove the 2 bolts at the thermostat housing. The upper hose goes to the thermostat housing.
Remove the two 12mm bolts with a socket and extension. Loosen the upper radiator hose from the thermostat housing. Pull out the housing, remove the old thermostat, and put in the new one. Be sure to get the steel gasket in the same way it came off. Replace the two bolts, tighten the hose and add water and antifreeze.
