Killer bees originally spread north from Brazil into northern Argentina. From there they spread farther north into Central America. From Central America the bees spread to Mexico, Texas, Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico, Florida, and Southern California. The spread halted in East Texas for awhile due to the large concentration of honey bees located there.

The Africanized bee, also known as the 'killer bee', originated in Africa, then spread to Brazil. It is currently found throughout South America, Mexico, and the southern United States. This type of bee is dangerous because it is much more aggressive than the typical European honeybee.
