The Oil Drain Hose is located on the leftside under the battery and is clamped to a blind (goes no where nipple) fitting. If you want to drain and change your primary then it is on the leftside under the derby cover.
Where are the drain plugs for engine, transmission, etc and can the same oil be used for all three compartments
Stock Harley plugs works as good as any.
The plug on the shifter side is the oil drain plug. The one on the braking side is the transmission fluid drain plug.
Harley Davidson engine oil drain plugs are located at the bottom of the oil tank on all models ,[ be it a plug or a short hose with a clamp on it]. A service manual will assist you with many of your questions. They are worth the money , considering the potential damage that could be done without one.
The suggested spark plug gap for a 1973 Harley Davidson is 0.040. It is the suggested gap for most of the spark plugs of that era.
Gap the plugs .038" to .043" and torque the plugs to 22 ft/lbs.
I prefer Autolite plugs. Dyno shows them to add about 2 HP.
You should change your plugs and use lucas oil....
Depends on what size ci. Originally they took a Champion #3 or #4, from Harley, and sometimes they used a #5, which is a "cooler" plug.
There are two drain plugs on the oil pan. The one on the bottom, plugs a tube through the oil pan straight up to your transmission. (that would be the tranny plug) The other one is the one you want. It is located on the front of the oil pan at the bottom. Instead of comming straight down the oil should come out horizontal.
The transmission plug in on the bottom right hand side and the engine oil plug is on the left bottom side. It is a 9/16 socket I believe. Jeff
