YES there are over-the-range microwaves for 24" space. I have a 24" electric range in a small kitchen and searched until I found two options for a 24" OTR microwave (tho they are really just around 22" wide), listed below:

My guess for an 'average' price (without s&h) seems to be around $300.
I didn't go with the LG because it just sounded too tall for me to be able to reach and use the cabinet above it. It's just about 2 1/2 inches taller than the Magic Chef, but I'm short!
We took down our range hood, unscrewed the cabinet above it and raised it up by 6 1/4" on the wall and reattached it (adding extra screws), and that gave us the added room beneath to install the microwave. You will also have to add a plug-in receptacle using the power wire for the old range hood. If you do not want upper cabinets that are 'out of line' you could purchase a shorter upper cabinet. I am thrilled to have it. No more of my already limited counter space for a microwave. And it's bigger than my countertop one was too!

Can you use a over the range microwave on your counter?
no! you can only use it over your range. if you don't have a range, you need to go buy one. it can be used - in fact it doesn't even need to work. It just needs to be there. We don't know exactly how the microwave knows theres a range there - but it won't work unless it senses one. Perhaps it's the range sensor - located next to the lightbulb. If you remove the range sensor - then you may in fact be able to use your microwave on your counter top. There are many parts supply centers online that can sell you a countertop sensor that will override your range sensor. Either way - good luck!!!
