If you have a console shift then there are 4 screws that holds the polished panel on. Remove them and there are 2 more that hold the shift panel in. turn it upside down and disconnect it.

Remove the rubber boot by taking out the 4 Philips screws in the pastic base then lift it off. the boot is attached to the plastic. Then pull the next rubber mat up enough to get to the 3 torx screws, These are what holds the shifter in. MAKE SURE THE VEHICAL IS IN NEUTRAL. Remove the screws and lift the shifter out. To remove the shift knob on a '95 Mazda MX-3 just twist the knob itself counter clockwise until it comes off!
