It should be the same as my 92. Under front of the car coming from compersor is a large line. On that line (low side line) is the low presure fitting,this where you put R134 or R12,which ever one you allready have in the car.If not allready R134 I would convert it.R134 is alot cheaper.

the value to load the freon for a 1997 grand am is under the engine you would have to lift the front of car up and you should see the value on the right passenger side
Connect the Freon recharge hoses to the ports on the air conditioner compressor. With the hoses connected release the Freon into the compressor.

From below the front of the engine, look up just behind the radiator. You will see the connection.
