Follow the positive battery cable down to the starter. Disconnect ground on the battery. Remove any bracket or obstruction that blocks access to the starter,Loosen the two bolts that hold starter to the engine, if there is a heat shield, remove it.As you lower the starter, remove the two wires on the starter solenoid. At times you need to wiggle, twist , or turn the starter to remove it if you are in real close quarters. Reverse procedure. Done. I hope this helps you. Mark
The starter for the 89 buick is located in the front of the engine under the exuast manifold... Can be accessed from underneath the car.. will need to jack the car up somewhat to get to it.
Disconnect the red powerlead. Undo the 3 bolts and pull it out.. Install is the reverse Time: under 1/2hr difficulty: easy

Under the glove compartment.
Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery, under the car you will see the starter on the rear of the engine there are two electrical connections disconnect the cables from the starter, there are 2 or 3 bolts attaching it to the flywheel cover remove those bolts, (watch so it doesn't fall on you it is heavy) remove the starter and replace it with the reverse of these instructions.
On the driver side of car under hood. Starter sits midway of engine at the bottom part of the engine.
