Where could I find a wiring diagram for a 1976 VW super beetle?
Either in the Bently repair manual (the orange one):
http://www2.cip1.com/SearchResults.asp?Search=Bently&Search1=Search
If you are keeping the car it is well worth the money.
Or one of the VW Bug forums like:
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/
And search for "1976 Super wiring diagram".
google imagesGo to this web site: http://www.vintagebus.com/wiring/index.htmlIt has wiring diagrams for Bus, Beetle, Super Beetle, Karmann Ghia, Type 3, Type 4, Type 181 (Thing), Type 48 and Kubelwagen. Years ranging from 1950 - 1991.

All fuses should be 8 amps (white) with the exception of circuits 9 and 10. These circuits should be 16 amps (red). Hope this helps. also there is a fuse box diagram for a 73 super beetle found on this link (you can find other super beetle fuse box diagrams and wiring diagrams there too) http://www.vintagebus.com/wiring/bug-73+fuse.jpg

I suggest purchasing a repair manual for that vehicle. Bentley published the best manuals for Volkswagens, if you can find one.
thesamba.com has everything
correct it will fit. be sure to take lots of pictures before you pull all of the wires off. so you have a diagram of where they go after.
J C Wwitney has manuals
I would suggest you purchase yourself a Chiltons or other repair manual. I wouldn't advise trusting your wiring needs to the internet. There are many many reasons why internet wiring diagrams can be troublesome, most of the time it has to do with the fact that no one reviews these diagrams before they go up. For the sake of you and your beetle, i would suggest a manual. However, should you want to view or download one there is an official VW wire diagram for it here, however contents in the index are written in German. http://www.1302super.com/page19a.html
Open the front hood/trunk, remove the wiring cover. If you look closely there are nutsholding the dashboard on.
