That depends what you mean by 'work'. Although unlike today's British monarchs (actually he was an English monarch) he had absolute power, it could be said that his ministers-like Cardinal Wolsey did his work for him. Of course he still had to make appearances as such, the most famous being the Field of the Cloth of Gold with Francis I. I have read that he used to work on state papers whilst hearing mass in chapel.
