Technically, they originated from all over the world. The first group that arrived in Salt Lake City left from Nauvoo, Illinois. Later groups came from various parts of the U.S., Canada, and Europe. Most groups met in St. Louis to organize and gather supplies before heading out on the trail, just as groups traveling other pioneer trails. As the Mormon trail was used mostly from 1847 until the transcontinental railroad in 1869, there is no one "mormon trail group".
They all originate in Indepence, Missouri.
The Mormons, the religious group that made and traveled the trail.
The first group of Mormon pioneers started on the trail in the winter of 1845-46, but groups continued to use the trail until the railroad came in 1869.
The Mormon Trail had several starting pionts, but the original group traveling from Nauvoo, Illionios to Utah travelled over 1,300 miles.

The Mormon Trail began in 1847.
The Mormon Trail didn't have one specific leader or group of leaders. Rather, each individual group that traveled the trail appointed a leader who was knowledgable about the terrain and had the skills needed to lead them safely to the west. Most people who travelled the Mormon Trail were Mormons, and therefore had the same religious leaders, but the religious leaderswere not generally the trail leaders (although in some cases religious leaders returning from missions abroad would assist in leading groups on the trail).
The Mormon Trail started in February 1846.
Mormon Trail was created on 1978-11-10.
The Mormon Trail was approximately 1,300 miles long. It would take anywhere from several weeks to several months to travel it, depending on the mode of travel, the number of people in your group, and the weather. Keep in mind that most who traveled the Mormon trail did not originate from the beginning of the trail in the midwest of America, but came from futher away places such as Canada, New England, Great Britain, and Scandinavia. This meant that their journey was much further than just the 1,300 mile trail.
