1st answer (edited for spelling) "His speech was pronounced on a colony in Virginia in 1912 and he was a British slave owner in the west Indies"

I'm sure that the poster meant 1612 not 1912. But, there were no African slaves in The Colonies until 1619, so the accuracy of the above answer is in doubt.

In fact, there is no evidence of the Willie Lynch story even existing prior to 1993, nor is there any evidence of a slave holder by that name having ever written the book which has been attributed to him.

In the 2007 film The Great Debaters Denzel Washington tells his debate team about a cruel slave holder (by the same name) who was invited to VA to teach the most Gothic and cruel methods to break the spirits of the slaves.

It's likely that this is a fictional character intended to impress upon African Americans that slavery became an American institution because of learned helplessness and other established methods of mind control.

There are other possible sources with the name Lynch, (see LYNCHING in WIKIPEDIA) but none from the 1600's or who are credited with the speech or the cruel whippings or "drawing and quartering" of slaves to serve as examples to any who may have thought about running away.
