Martin Van Buren (1782 - 1862) was the 8th President of the United States. He was born in the village of Kinderhook near New York. He became known as Old Kinderhook. His supporters needed a 'catch phrase' to help his campaign for the Presidency, one of his team devised the phrase - "You will be Ok with OK". Meaning, of course, that your vote will be safe with Old Kinderhook. From there OK passsed into general usage
"Okay" is believed to originate from the early 19th century in the United States. It may have its roots in the abbreviations "Oll Korrect" (a humorous misspelling of "all correct") or "Orl Korrekt" in Boston newspapers. It gained popularity and spread widely through its use in political campaigns.
In French, the word "okay" is spelled "d'accord".
"Okay" in Tagalog can be translated as "sige" or "okay lang."
The noun forms for the verb to originate are originator, one who originates, and origination. Origin is another noun form.
The word "hamburger" did not originate in France. It is derived from the German city of Hamburg.
In Yiddish, you can say "eynzik" to mean okay.
