"Tabby" is not a breed of cat. If you have a tabby cat this is just reffering to the cats coat of fur. But, the initial origin of the word, "Tabby" seems to be from the Attabiyah section of Baghdad where a type of striped silk was made that was later used to describe the way a cats fur looked.
In the Middle East. Jewish traders in old Bagdad (yes Iraq battle site) noted the cat"s striped fur suggested watered silk called tabbi or a-tabbi (allowing for transliteration) as they were known in the Middle East in Biblical times, the popular story about the feline witness to the first Christmas MIGHT be plausible However cats are not mentioined in The Bible. The popular idea the M mark on the forehead stands for Mary, meaning St. Mary is without foundation, if so would it not be in Hebraic script? besides as my old man said, such a miracle would only, have effected that One cat, if it was male or female. a similar tale is told about Palm Sunday and the so-called Saddle marks on a Mule, which are congenital. ( as I found out when I tried to ride a Mule at camp as a kid- iI thoghnt that meant they were broken in!) These are religious animal myths and in a sense are dangerous. The Donkey and Mules ahving cruciform marks on the withers, and the M- for Mary on tabby cats. nice tales, but. --- The first domestic cats were descendants of wild cats, most likely the European wild cat or the African wild cat, both of which have tabby markings making it almost certain that tabbies were the first domestic cats.
The first tabby was sighted at a place called zahbeir not to far from brahzeria.

Tabby cats are incredibly common. The tabby coat pattern can be found on many breeds of cat, but is particularly common in moggies/Domestic Shorthairs.
Not at all. The Tabby pattern is probably the most common coat pattern found on domestic cats.
No, I have personally had female orange tabby cats.
Tabby is a naturally-occurring color pattern within cats. It has developed on its own over time, and while humans may have encouraged it by breeding cats for the tabby patter, it originally came from nature.
