The simple answer is that the Roman Church teaches that it is the one holy and apostolic church with direct line, through the papacy, to the apostles and hence to Jesus Christ. Jesus of Nazareth did not found the church but preached his principles of love and forgiveness and commanded his followers to do the same as it is believed, on the Feast of Pentecost. The "power" of the church can realistically be said to have first been achieved when Charlemagne (also known as Charles the I) was the political ruler of all of what is known as modern Europe. Pope Leo III proclaimed him Holy Roman Emperor and crowned him as such in St. Peter's. This was a political maneuver on the part of Papacy in a time when the church was engaged in an effort to recover it land holdings from the Lombardi rulers in Italy. Since the Roman church was now the official church of the state, its political power was established. It's influence in society grew by this same venue. To maintain this authority, it taught it's absolute civil and religious authority came directly from Jesus Christ. Through such events as the Crusades, the Inquisition, and its long history of being the primary source of education for society, it established itself as the sole authority for many centuries. This all began to decay after the Reformation, a period of active descent and breakaway religions, as well as schisms which gave birth to Eastern and Russian Orthodoxy.

Roman Catholic AnswerThe Roman Catholic Church was established by Jesus Christ from the Cross and was confirmed by the Holy Spirit on Pentecost who perdures in the Church until the end of the age. The Church is both the Mystical Body of Christ AND His most holy Spouse. Obviously any power that She has comes from God.

The rise of the Roman Catholic Church?

A: First, as a Catholic, I take issue with the term "Roman Catholicism" or "Roman Catholic." That term did not come into existence until the Protestant Reformation. The term was created by Protestants to describe The Catholic Church. Earliest use of the term was the 16th Century. The Catholic Church Herself does not accept this "qualifier."Example 1: The Catechism of The Catholic Church is not titled: The Catechism of The Roman Catholic Church. There's a reason for that -- such a title would be theologically inaccurate and misleading.Example 2: when referring to The Orthodox Church, we do not call Her The Russian Church or The Greek Church. To do so is inaccurate and dismissive/insulting because The Orthodox Church does not describe Herself by such "qualifiers."Technically, there is no such thing as "the Roman Catholic Church."Second: therefore, the answer to your question is: The Catholic Church "rose" -- came into actual/official existence -- at Pentecost.

Why did the split in the Roman Catholic Church become permanent?

I think perhaps you are asking about the Eastern Schism when most of the Eastern Rites split into two, half remaining Catholic, and half forming what is known as the Orthodox Church. . Roman is an epithet first commonly used in England after the protestant revolt to describe the Catholic Church. It is rarely used by the Catholic Church. The split is a long time running, but it cannot remain permanent, as Christ prophesized that all would come into the Catholic Church before the end of the world.

Where did the Catholic church come up with the holiday Valentine's day?

Roman Catholic AnswerDespite some early claims that the Catholic Church tried to replace Lupercalia (an ancient Roman holiday) there are no ties whatsoever between the two that can be proved. The Church really had nothing to do with the modern idea of a holiday for lovers. That idea came out of the Middle Ages and a belief that birds starting mating on this date. It just happened to be the Roman martyr, St. Valentine's feast day, the Church had nothing to do with it.

Where did the name of the 'Roman Catholic Church' come from?

== The name "Roman Catholic Church" entered use after the Protestant Reformation. The term is used in English speaking countries; with the advent of Anglicanism, as well as other denominations that began making English converts, there began a dispute over what group had claim over the official title of "The Church". To distinguish it from themselves, the Anglicans began to call it the Roman Catholic Church to signify its nature, having its head in Rome (the pope) and invoking its unofficial title of being "Catholic" or universal. Over time this title has organically grown into modern usage, however, only among English speakers. The "Roman Catholic" Church continues to refer to itself simply as "The Church" in all its official documents.

Where did the Catholics religion come from?

The Roman Catholic Religion originally came from Judaism. All the founding members of the Church were Jews. Our Blessed Lord, Himself, was a Jew, and His apostles were all Jews. The "Roman" part of it comes from the fact that the first Pope, Peter, went to Rome, which was the center of the civilized world at that point in history, and the Church has spread out from Rome to cover the world. "Roman" is an epithet first commonly used in England after the protestant revolt to describe the Catholic Church. It is never used by the Catholic Church.

When did the Roman Catholic Church come to Newfoundland?

It's just Catholic, not Roman Catholic. Roman is an epithet first commonly used in England after the protestant revolt to describe the Catholic Church. It is never used by the official Catholic Church. Although Mass was celebrated several times in the early years, none of these were due to a permanent settlement, and it wasn't until the French, who established a church at Placentia about the middle of the seventeenth century. According to Bishop Howley, several priests ministered to this congregation, and one of them always remained there during the winter. Later, when the French captured St. John's in 1708, and held it until the signing of the treaty of Utrecht in 1713, the Roman Catholic religion "was publicly professed and practised.
