The biggest earthquake ever recorded, which occurred near the cities of Valdivia and Puerto Montt, Chile, in 1960. Known as the Great Chilean Earthquake, the quake measured an impressive 9.5 on the Richter scale. The death toll of the Great Chilean Earthquake is not known, although the USGS estimates about 1,655 people died, and the earthquake may have caused as much as $800 billion US Dollars in damage.
The biggest major earthquake in Nevada was a 6.8 magnitude. It happened in 2008 and cause $10 million in damages.
it probably happened during dinosaur periods when the continents split apart
Alaska had the biggest earthquake in the US.
12is the biggest magnitude of an earthquake.
the biggest earthquake recorded was 9.1 on the Richter scale.
The biggest earthquake measured 9.5 on the ritcher scale.
The largest earthquake ever recorded was the 1960 Valdivia earthquake in Chile, which had a magnitude of 9.5 on the Richter scale. This earthquake caused widespread devastation and had a significant impact on the region.
The largest earthquake thought to have ever happened in Mexico is that caused by the impact of the asteroid that created the Chicxulub crater approximately 65 million years ago at the end of the Cretaceous period. This released energy equivalent to an earthquake of 13 on the Richter scale.
The Chile Earthquake in February was the biggest earthquake reported in 2010.
The biggest earthquake reported in Mexico was the Mexico City Earthquake in 1985. It had a magnitude of 8.5, and caused about 10,000 deaths.
Not all earthquakes that ever happened have been recorded. We've only recorded them for a little over a century, I believe. So you can't tell for certain. But the biggest earthquake on record is the Valdivia earthquake, from 1960. It measured 9.5 on the Richter scale. (a scale ranging from 1-10)The highest magnitude earthquake occurred in Chile in 1960 with a scale of 9.5.
Yes. I experienced the Chilean earthquake of Feb. 27, 2010, the 8th biggest recorded earthquake in history. It happened at 3 am and was super strong, however most buildings in Chile are "earthquake proof" due to Chile being a seismic zone (has the biggest recorded earthquake in history!) so there wasn't significant damage done to the infrastructure of Chile.
