Greyhouds are thought to have come from Egypt, where simmilar dogs, such as Salukis and Pharoh Hounds came/come from.

Histories of the Greyhound Goes back approximately four thousand 4000 years. The Greyhound is one of oldest of breeds. It can be seen on pottery, hieroglyphs, artistry and, literature, dating back thousands of years. In Egypt their mummified remains have been found with that of their owners). a hunting dog with a long, slender body, very similar to the grey hound appears in temple drawings in the city of Catal-Huyuk in Turkey that date back from 6000 B.C. The Greyhound is the only breed of dog specifically mentioned by name in The Bible (Proverbs 30:29-31). There were written breeding records found of the "English Greyhound" that date back further then 1770. The oldest written records come from approximately 2500 B.C. and were kept by the ancient Egyptians.
