The completion of the USA's transcontinental railway was a huge event in US history. On May 5, 1869 the Central Pacific Railroad left from Sacramento California to meet the Union Pacific railway in May of 1869. Thus the link between East & West was completed. The meeting point was Promontory Point, Utah Territory.
