Cassava (Manihot esculenta) is thought to have originated in Brazil and Paraguay, but was wide spread throughout tropical South America before Columbus arrived.

The Plantain (banana) was imported into Spain from the Caribbean in the mid 1500's. Plantana is an Arawak name, it was also locally known as Pratane. The European 'origin' was Spain from the original being the Caribbean
