You don't. There is no dipstick or filler pipe. It has a drain plug, but to fill it I use a long vinyl hose attached to a funnel. The pan holds about a gallon of fluid. Make sure you use the right fluid. My 02 used mercon 5. Use only Motorcraft Mercon 5 or a synthetic (Mobil 1, Havoline Max Life) that meets Mercon 5 specs. Do not use any generic fluid that requires an additive to supposedly bring it up to Mercon 5 specs. Mercon 5 five is semi-synthetic and a few ounces of mystery additive isn't going to make generic mineral oil-based ATF into a synthetic. The correct way to measure or adjust the fluid level is: 1. Remove the plug at the bottom of the pan. A small amount of fluid may run out. 2. Remove the small plug on the upper rear of the pan. Add fluid until it starts to run out the bottom.
