in the engine compartment, up against the firewall, all the way over on the (usa) passenger side, there is a plastic block with 2 aluminum lines running to it. the larger line/port is the suction line/port which is where you add refrigerant.

1997 VW Jetta GL's dont have them... There is an air intake but no compartment for a filter. Sad but true.
On the newer cars like the Jetta there is no timing adjustment as it is set on the fly y the engine computer in accordance with sensor inputs.

You have to fill the overflow tank as the radiator does not have a fill cap. Run the engine as you fill the overflow tank but just up to the marks on the tank.
