Seeing that the AU /BA series transmissions do not have a dipstick, filing is required through the fluid sensor plug on the side of the transmission.
These particular transmissions are notorious for leaking, so keep an eye on the instrument dash for warning lights and buzzers, otherwise it can be a very costly experience!!

I have a 1993 Ford Explorer. There is no fill plug for transmission fluid. I imagine that the 1994 Ford Explorer would be similar. To fill, use a funnel and pour the transmission fluid directly into the tube that holds the dipstick. Do not fill past the full line on the tank below.
