!YES! after hours of looking and reading these comments I "Finally" found it. I removed the ERG valve in order to get my short arms down in there. That is the hardest part; getting to it. It came off easy. >BUT now; I have the wrong replacement:(.. And threw away my receit. You have to look and work on the rightside of the engine.
The speed sensor on a 1999 Taurus is on top of the transmission. It is located directly under the number 2 cylinder.

vss= vehicle speed sensor. try the wheel.. id say there is nothing wrong with the sensor itself.. try the wiring
there are four of them and they are located on the inside of each wheel on the underbody of the car. they are black and are made of plastic. The Vehicle speed sensor is actually somewhere on the trans. The wheel speed sensors are located inside the wheels not on the under body of the vehicle.
The problem is probably in the speed sensor.
There are two sensors located on the driver's side of the transmission. there is an input and and output sensor. You can get to them from the underside of the car.
check for a cable comming out of the transmission even if its electronic
a speed sensor tells the vehicle computers how fast the vehicle is going, and also possibly operates the speedometer. If it is a wheel speed sensor it tells the anti-lock brake system how fast the individual wheel is turning and activates the anti-lock brakes in case of a skid.
The 1999 Chevrolet Suburban speed sensor is located on the back of the transmission. The speed sensor will be in the upper left-hand corner.
Sounds like you have a bad Vehicle Speed Sensor.
where is the speed sensor on a 1999 dodge ram The vehicle speed sensor is located on the top of the rear axle. You remove the nut and stud that hold it down and gently twist and pry it out. Be carefull not to break it off.
The speed sensor is mounted in the top of the rear differential on a 1999 F150. Remove the wires, then unbolt the sensor to remove it.
Under the hood
Its probably the vehicle speed sensor located on the transmission. Mine had that problem
