The bridal stores also carry formal dresses for other people who attend the wedding. However, the older women at weddings I have been to have been wearing dresses/outfits in a flattering style and color for them. Make sure it is comfortable and appropriate for the weather. Probably avoid a bright red or other color that will detract from the bride if you are going to be in the pictures.
