The fuel pump is mounted dead center of the fuel tank. The tank must be removed in order to replace the pump.

The fuel pump relay in a 1997 Pontiac Bonneville is found under the hood of the car in front of the wiper blades. To access the pump relay, there is a plastic cover with three tabs which must first be removed.
The fuel pump is located inside the fuel tank.First check under the carpeting in the trunk to see if your car happens to have an access panel to get at it .If not, the tank will need to be dropped to change the pump.

Should'nt be that tough. You have an access cover in the trunk under the carpet on the right side. Pull out the fuel pump and the fuel guage sending unit is part of the assembly.
i have a 2002 Bonneville also. and to replace the bulb you have 3 bolts inside the trunk you have to unscrew and then the whole fixture will pop out towards the outside and you will have easy access to the whole fixutre. Most of the Gm automatics have no plug. This forces you to remove the pan in order to access fluid for a change, this in turn gives you access to the filter itself.
The horn is located on the front of the radiator bulkhead, to the right of the rightside frame member, below the right headlight assembly. You can access it from below the bumper.
to remove pump on 1997 Bonneville, I aligned holes on actual pulley wheel access holes and reversed bolts.........
