It is the rear head, the cylinder closest to the timing cover. General rule of thumb, the #1 cylinder is always the first cylinder, on the head that sits farther forward on the block. The only exception to this rule is old Pontiac engines.
The firing order of a 1999 Pontiac Montana mini van is 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. The number one cylinder is located at the front left side of the engine.
It should be 1-6-5-4-3-2
the back three closest to the firewall are 1,3,5.the front three closest to the front of the van are 2,4,6.

The rear bank contains cylinders 1-3-5. Behind the rear bank are the three ignition coils. They are lined up from left to right: 5-2 / 3-6 / 4-1.
