There is no uniform doctrine or statement made by Lutheran churches on Islam; Lutherans nowadays are typically very supportive and tolerant of other religions, including Islam, although like any church regard their own view of religion as "truer" than other views of religion, including Islam. Most Lutheran pastors will have studied the Qur'an at seminary school and are quite knowledgeable on Islam.
Specifically, in North Africa, Islam arrived in the year 711 AD when Muslim soldiers led a conquest all the way to Spain. In areas such as Somalia and Comoros, Islam came at different times (Somalia was part of the Egyptian empire) and should be studied on a country by country basis.

The common misconceptions about Islam arise in the minds of a majority of non-Muslims, because they are constantly being bombarded with misinformation about Islam.Misconceptions due to mediaInternational media is mainly controlled by the western world, whether it is international satellite channels, radio stations, newspapers, magazines or books. Recently the Internet has become a powerful medium of information. Though it is not controlled by anybody, one finds a large amount of virulent propaganda about Islam on the Internet. Of course, Muslims too are utilizing this tool to portray the right image of Islam and Muslims, but they are far behind as compared to the propaganda against Islam. I hope the efforts by the Muslims will increase and continue to be pursued.Misconceptions change with timeThe most common misconceptions about Islam are different in different periods and eras. Decades earlier, the set of misconceptions were different and decades later too, the set of misconceptions may change depending upon how Islam is projected by the media.Misconceptions of non-Muslims who have studied IslamThere are many non-Muslims who have studied Islam. Most of them have only read books on Islam written by biased critics of Islam. For instance, they claim to have found contradictions in the Qur'an, they contend that the Qur'an is unscientific, etc. As a Muslim it is our honourable duty to clear these misconceptions among non-Muslims who have studied Islam from distorted sources.

The main religions are Buddhism, Hinduism, Judaism, Christianity and Islam. The first two are polytheistic and the last three are monotheistic. Judaism, Christianity and Islam all have major divisions and sects. I don't know if the same could be said about Buddhism and Hinduism as I have not studied them.
The word Islam literally translates in English to "become peaceful, acceptance, submission, self-surrenderAs for Muslim, it means literally "submission" but has the connotation of a peaceful submission before God. It is a choice, as well.I got my information from the book "No God but God", written by Reza Aslan. Aslan is an American Muslim and a prominent religious scholar that studied at Harvard.
