There should be 2 oxygen sensors on your Jeep one before the catylic converter and one after, inside of the exhaust pipe. be sure to have your mechanic check both. They normally don't go out at the same time but it does happen.

In a 1998 Jeep Wrangler, the oxygen sensor is located in the exhaust pipe. It can be found just below the junction of the exhaust manifold and the exhaust pipe.

On the 98 u have two oxygen sensors an upstream and a downstream. The upstream oxygen sensor is located closer to the front of the truck by the transmission. The downstream oxygen sensor is located on down torwards the back of the truck along the side of the frame.
A 1998 Jeep Cherokee does not have a mass airflow sensor. It uses a manifold pressure sensor, MAP, which is on the rear of the intake manifold.

i recently had a diagnostic test done on my 1998 jeep Cherokee sport; 4wd;4.0 L and was told that i have 3: 1 located before the catalytic converter & 2 located after the catalytic converter: i also would like some clarification on the matter because i looked underneath the vehicle and so far have found 2!
The oxygen sensor on any vehicle is located on under the car on the top of the muffler pipe just behind the cadallidic converter....do you know what the oxygen sensor looks like so you know what you're looking for?
